Poem: Ode to Compost

Compost

Oh, compost

Where for art thou compost?

Out there sitting silently in the garden

hiding among the trees

Oh compost, my darling compost

Thou shall be in my heart always

I think of you often

and then yet my thoughts do linger

with the sadness of your missed presence

That which is missed among my many fellow

gardens and common dwellings near and far

Oh compost

Where for art thou compost?

Though I do hope that my faith holds steadfast

that your presence among my windows and yonder balcony

with that decaying rotting organic matter

thriving worms and rich brown soil

Will nourish this land's ecosystem

This hope, forever true

A truth among the breeze

Thou art in my heart always compost

Oh compost

Forever you
